Lake Ägeri circular hike

Lake Ägeri invites you directly from the hotel to take a leisurely and beautiful circular hike along its banks. The idyllic path takes you past swimming spots and fireplaces around the lake. The circular hike is around 8.5 km long and takes around 3 hours. Or ask at our reception about one of our rowing boats, which we rent out to our guests, or about options for a boat trip!

Ägeri Panorama Trail 

The Ägerital recreation area will make your holiday stay an unforgettable experience. The beautiful tour on the heights above Lake Ägeri particularly contributes to this. Raten

On the Raten, 1077m above sea level, there is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the canton of Zug. St. Jost chapel with mountain pub and St. Jost ski hut

The chapel of the St. Jost hermitage stands on a hilltop surrounded by forest on the old pilgrimage route to Einsiedeln. It was consecrated in 1701 and restored in 1983/84. The brother’s house next to the chapel was built in 1833/34 and destroyed by arson on May 22, 2005. The Bergbeizli St. Jost is always worth a breather! Enjoy carefree hours with a cold plate with Innerschwyzer wine or relax with a piece of cake and a pilgrim coffee.

Gottschalkenberg

The Gottschalkenberg is a popular excursion destination with a wonderful panoramic view high above the Ägeri Valley. Sattel-Hochstuckli

Take a trip to Sattel and take the Stuckli-Rondo, the first 8-seater gondola with rotating cabins, to Mostelberg, Herrenboden and Hochstuckli! This is a world first, because thanks to the latest mountain railway technology, the gondolas rotate slowly around their own axis twice during their journey up the mountain (and also when descending). There are only good seats on this cable car, because every passenger can enjoy every view. This excursion is definitely worth it, because with the beautiful view of Lake Ägeri and the Ägeri Valley, the Sattel-Hochstuckli cable car ride is a very special experience! Adventure trail Engelstock

Observe, experiment and experience stations on the topics of forest, traffic, air, water, moor and panorama and fairytale characters made from tree trunks on this attractive circular route. But no fear! This is not only an educational trail, but also engages the senses with games and experiences. The starting point is the mountain station of the Stuckli Rondo revolving gondola lift. The Engelstock adventure trail can be walked in 1.5 to 2 hours with light footwear. There are benches and fire pits for cozy picnics at the various themed stations. The trail is open all year round.

Zugerberg

In summer the Zugerberg, at 925 m above sea level, is M. and the panoramic view are ideal for hiking and just as suitable for Nordic walking and biking. A sculpture path and an adventure playground attractively complement the summer offerings. Weather permitting, there are also various opportunities for winter sports: winter hiking, tobogganing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, alpine skiing and natural ice skating on the Löschweiher (directly at the mountain station of the Zugerbergbahn).

Sculpture trail Zugerberg

On the 4.5km long hike along the sculpture trail on the Zugerberg, 19 well-known residents of forest and mountain areas can be found. The young forest warden, Pascal Sturm, used the wood from Sturm Lothar (1999) to create a variety of animal figures with his chainsaw. Numerous benches, also made of storm wood, and some barbecue areas invite you to linger and have a picnic on this unique hiking trail. Duration of the hike approx. 1.5 hours.

High moor Rothenthurm

One of the largest raised moors in Switzerland is located between Rothenthurm and Biberbrugg. The Rothenthurm plain is considered a moorland of particular beauty and contains moors and floodplains of national importance. Rigi «Queen of the mountains»

The Rigi, with its unique view of many lakes and cities as well as the Alpine Arena, is considered the most popular excursion mountain in Switzerland. This is also underlined by the long list of visitors with well-known personalities, including the English Queen Victoria and the writer Mark Twain. Visitors are offered ideal leisure opportunities with a large network of hiking and walking trails and Nordic walking trails. There are many barbecue areas, children’s playgrounds and restaurants to choose from for a well-deserved rest. Mythen

The Mythen in central Switzerland is the landmark of the canton capital Schwyz and consist of two peaks: the Great Mythen (1898 m above sea level) and the Smaller Mythen (1811 m above sea level). A summer path leads from Holzegg to the Grosse Mythen, but it is extremely slippery in wet weather. Regardless, small children should definitely be secured with a rope. The lower peak is reserved for climbers as it is not accessible to hikers. At the summit of the Grosser Mythen, the efforts to climb are rewarded with a wonderful panoramic view and a mountain restaurant. On the northern slope you can see the upper reaches of the Alp River.

The dragon mountain Pilatus

Located right on the outskirts of the beautiful city of Lucerne and easily accessible by public transport, the Pilatus (2132 m) offers truly fantastic excursion opportunities for young and old. Ideal for hiking: On Mount Pilatus you will find various hiking routes, mountain routes, two alpine routes and a panoramic view that is not often found in Europe. The dragon mountain of Pilatus offers 2 cable cars, 7 restaurants, the steepest cog railway in the world and the largest rope park in Central Switzerland, climbing opportunities, tobogganing and biking. For winter sports, there are also good opportunities on Mount Pilatus for sledding, winter hiking and snowshoeing.

Oberägeri – Flower village of central Switzerland

Oberägeri is located at 737m above sea level, by a beautiful mountain lake, Lake Ägeri, and has just over 5,000 inhabitants. The location above the fog line in the most beautiful foothills of the Alps in Switzerland and the proximity to the important centers are among the special advantages of the place. Oberägeri owes its “flourishing” to a community of interests that had set itself the goal of beautifying the village. So far, over 20 houses have been decorated, a 5.5m tall flower duck and various plant troughs and flower pots have been planted.

Zug

Not only known as a corporate Eldorado and tax haven, but also as an enchanting Swiss city: That’s Zug! Zug is only a 20-minute drive from the hotel and you can also easily use public transport for a trip: take bus number 9 to Oberägeri station and change there to bus number 1, which will take you to the center of Zug . Of course, the bus journey takes a little longer, around 30-35 minutes. You will be rewarded with a delightful Zug old town, good opportunities for shopping and strolling, a magnificent waterfront promenade and a wonderful panoramic view over Lake Zug!

Visit the historic old town with Zug Castle, town hall, Our Lady Chapel and Zytturm. Walk along the waterfront and enjoy the wonderful panorama of Lake Zug, Zugerberg and Rigi. Zug’s old town is characterized by the 52-meter-high Zytturm, the city’s landmark, built in the 13th century. The late Gothic town hall was built around 1505 and fascinates with the artistic carvings in the Gothic Hall and the baroque courtroom, today the meeting room of the citizens’ council. Zug Castle was built in the 9th century by the Counts of Lenzburg and today, with its diverse architectural additions, provides a beautiful insight into over 700 years of architectural history.

Schwyz

Schwyz is about 15 minutes away by car from the hotel. Schwyz is the capital of the canton of the same name and has around 13,000 inhabitants. The origin of the city of Schwyz is attributed to the south-facing and wind-protected location at the foot of the Mythen. There are a variety of historical buildings to see, such as the Ital Reding Hofstatt, the Schwyz town hall and the Schwyzer fortifications.

Luzern

Lucerne is about 40 minutes away by car from the hotel. History and modernity meet here and Lucerne has been voted the most beautiful city in Switzerland several times. The contrasts are obvious in Lucerne: the time-honored wooden chapel bridge over the Reuss with the striking Kornturm or the futuristic KKL – culture and congress center by the famous architect Jean-Nouvel. The “Swiss Transport Museum” is also widely known and popular with a wide variety of exhibits on the topics of transport, locomotion and communication. Simply stroll along the beautiful waterfront promenade and enjoy the magnificent view of Lake Lucerne and the Lucerne Lake Basin as well as the splendor of the many monumental hotels in the Lucerne skyline.

Küssnacht

Küssnacht is about 25 minutes’ drive from the hotel and is in a wonderful location between Lake Zug, Lake Lucerne and Rigi. Numerous hiking trails and biking routes make Küssnacht a popular excursion destination. A cable car leads to Seebodenalp/Rigi and the Rigi-Lehnenweg and Waldstätterweg run along the lake. There are good opportunities for winter sports on Seebodenalp in the cold season. Worth seeing is the Gesslerburg, a castle ruin with the remains of the tower, living quarters, sodwell, corner tower, curtain wall with gate and kennel complex.

Zürich

Zurich is not only known as a banking metropolis and business center in Switzerland, but also for a beautiful city on the lake with historic buildings and a variety of outstanding cultural offerings: theater, concerts, literature, fine arts, dance, film and special cultural offerings for children. The city of Zurich also supports unique and qualitatively outstanding institutes and institutions. Zurich operates the Rietberg Museum, the Theater am Hechtplatz, the Helmhaus Zurich, the Strauhof Zurich Literature Museum and the Filmpodium under its own management. Various cultural events such as theater spectacles, days for new music, music podium, serenades, literature podium, exhibitions in the town hall and the youth music school round off the wide range of offerings.

Zugersee

Located at the foot of the Zugerberg, the combination of Lake Zug with the picturesque and historical buildings of the cantonal capital Zug is one of the region’s special attractions. Lake Zug lies at an altitude of 413 m above sea level. M., has an area of ​​38.41 km² and a maximum depth of 198 m. With its length of 13.7 km and its width of 4.6 km, it is the tenth largest lake in Switzerland. Together with the lake area, Lake Zug has a catchment area of ​​246 km². Lake Zug is easily accessible from all directions and the lakeside promenade is just a few minutes’ walk from the SBB Zug-Hauptbahnhof station.

Lake Lauerz

Lake Lauerz is embedded between Steinerberg, Rigi and the Kleiner and Großer Mythen and is located in the canton of Schwyz between Lake Lucerne and Lake Zug. With its maximum depth of 14 m, it is one of the shallowest lakes in Switzerland. The two small islands of Schwanau and the uninhabited Roggenburg are located in the lake. On the island of Schwanau there is a chapel, an old castle ruin and an inn. The poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is considered the most prominent visitor to the island.

Lake Lucerne

Lake Lucerne is located in the heart of Switzerland and connects the original cantons of Lucerne, Schwyz, Uri and Unterwalden (today Nid- and Obwalden), formerly also called “Waldstätten”. It offers a wealth of sights such as famous mountains such as Rigi – “Queen of the Mountains”, Pilatus – also called “Dragon Mountain”. Rich in history, you can find the Swiss Rütli, the founding site of the Swiss Confederation, or the Tellsplatte, Tellskapelle and Hohle Gasse quite close together. Popular for almost all types of water sports in summer, the beautiful surrounding landscape is also ideal for hiking in spring and autumn. In the cold season, the numerous mountain railways offer unique winter sports opportunities.

Sihlsee

The Sihlsee area is an attractive recreational area in summer and winter. It invites you to swim, surf, sail, row and fish. On well-marked hiking trails or while walking along the lake, on bicycle tours, you will find peace and relaxation for everyday life. In terms of its surface area, Lake Sihl is the largest reservoir in Switzerland. In 1928 the Einsiedler Landsgemeinde granted the concession to build Lake Sihl. Due to the general unemployment, it was decided to start construction work as early as 1932. To do this, around 29 km of roads had to be built around the planned lake. Then followed the two viaducts Birchli-Willerzell and Steinbach-Ruostel and finally the most important structure, the In den Schlagen dam. The reservoir was inaugurated in 1937.

Lake Zürich

Lake Zurich stretches from the banking and economic metropolis of Zurich in the west to the cantons of St. Gallen and Schwyz and measures 143 meters at its deepest point. There are two islands near Pfäffikon SZ, the island of Ufenau and the protected island of Lützelau. There is a car ferry connection between Meilen and Horgen. Lake Zurich has many faces: excursion destination, drinking water reservoir, shipping route, preferred residential area and water sports El Dorado. The main tributary is the Linth and the outflow is the Limmat in the heart of Zurich. The particularly mild shore climate favors the cultivation of wine and various Mediterranean plant species can even be found on Lake Zurich.

From the Hotel Ländli you have all options: internationally known sights such as the Swiss Museum of Transport, Glasi Hergiswil, Goldau Zoo or the Höllgrotten are easily accessible for excursions. Neo-Gothic Oberägeri church

The parish church of St. Peter and Paul and the associated ossuary are among the most important ecclesiastical monuments in central Switzerland. A church is said to have stood on the site of today’s church as early as 877. The church was first mentioned in a document in 1226. Until 1714 it was the mother church of the entire Ägeri Valley. The current church was built between 1905 and 1908 according to the plans of August Hardegger and replaced the late Gothic church. Late Gothic elements from the previous building and the church tower were adopted. It was restored in 1975/76 and placed under federal monument protection.

Zurlaubenhaus Oberägeri

In the village center of Oberägeri is the listed Zurlaubenhaus, which was built in 1574 by Johann Nussbaumer-Zurlauben. It served the Zug patrician Zurlauben family to recruit mercenaries for foreign military service. The renovated house has been the administration building of the Oberägeri corporation since 1962.

Pfrundhaus Oberägeri

The representative Pfrundhaus stands to the west of the church and was built in 1611 on older foundation walls from different times. The Pfrundhaus was probably the former rectory. As one of the first residential buildings in the area, the Pfrundhaus from 1611 already had a steep gable roof and stood out clearly from the village houses with flat tiled roofs that were common at the time. The Pfrundhaus was richly decorated inside and out. A Gothic wooden ceiling with profiled beams and grooved planks decorates the part of the room facing the parish church. During the restoration in 1990, the original window layout was restored. Today the rooms in the pound house are used by various clubs.

Sebelis Sage Oberägeri

An der Strasse, die über den Ratenpass nach Einsiedeln führt, steht eine über 100-jährige Sägerei, im Volksmund «Sebelis Sage» genannt. Die Bezeichnung geht auf die ehemaligen Besitzer – Vater und Sohn Josef Nussbaumer – zurück, deren Vorname im lokalen Dialekt auf die Kurzform «Sebeli» lautet. «Sebelis Sage», eine wasserbetriebene Turbine mit Wasserrad, dokumentiert einen Zweig des Maschinenbaus des 19. Jahrhunderts und steht als letztes erhaltenes Element der ganzen Kette von wassergetriebenen Anlagen am Dorfbach. Die Turbine wurde 1936 durch eine neue ersetzt, welche heute noch in Betrieb ist.

Industriepfad Lorze Ägeri

Unterägeri liegt am Eingang eines wunderschönen Voralpentales in der Zentralschweiz. Kein Wunder also, dass im 19. Jahrhundert die Qualitäten des Ägeritales vermarktet wurden und Sanatorien und Kurhäuser für Kinder und Erwachsene entstanden. Die Industrialisierung begann 1834 in Unterägeri. Damals entstand die Innere Spinnerei als erste Spinnerei im Kanton Zug und 1846 folgte die Äussere Spinnerei. Diese Fabriken prägten die Geschichte von Unterägeri. Um die Wasserkraft zu nutzen, wurden auch unwirtschaftliche Standorte in Schluchten der Lorze genutzt. Deshalb führt dieser Abschnitt des Industriepfades (Startpunkt: Bushaltestelle Unterägeri, Zentrum) nicht nur entlang von interessanten Fabriken, sondern auch durch eine faszinierende Naturlandschaft. Der Pegelstand des Ägerisees und die Industrie stehen im direkten Zusammenhang. 1857 bekam die Spinnerei das Recht, den Abfluss des Seewassers zu regulieren, damit der Fabrik genügend Wasserkraft zur Verfügung stand. So wurde der See zum Staubecken der Industrie. Je nach Vorwissen, Spezialinteresse und Zeitbudget sind Abwandlungen und Ergänzungen der Standardführungen möglich. Vitus-Kirche Morgarten

The Church of St. Veit – known as Vituskirche Morgarten – was built in 1896-1897 in the neo-Romanesque style. For this purpose, the chapel that already stood on this site was demolished, with the demolition material being reused to build the new church. In 1985/86 the church was renovated and the painting was restored. Josef Traub’s original painting has been preserved to this day, except for a few places. The church is dedicated to St. Vitus and is a listed building.

Morgarten-Denkmal, Information Center, Morgartenpfad

The monument, which commemorates the famous Battle of Morgarten on November 15, 1315, is in a fantastic location on Lake Ägeri near Buechwäldli. At the Letziturm (1322) in the hamlet of Schornen between Ägerisee and Sattel, the modern information center invites you to explore the Morgarten myth using multimedia (open April 1st to November 15th). There is also the battle chapel and, as a witness to medieval living and building culture, the medieval Schwyzer Haus (1176). The Morgartenpfad stretches between the monument at Ägerisee and the Sattel parish church, on which Morgarten stories are told at seven animated audio stations and compared with current research results (open April 1st to November 15th). Zuger Kirschtorte Zug

Heiri Höhn invented the Zug cherry cake in 1921 in the Treichler confectionery house in Zug. Even today, this dessert is still baked according to the traditional recipe of Jacques Treichler, his head pastry chef at the time. The people of Zug are rightly very proud of their product, which made Zug known around the world. City tours Zug

Experience the highlights of Zug: the Zytturm, the town hall with the Gothic Hall and the late Gothic St. Oswald Church or the Liebfrauen Chapel, the old ossuary, the Powder Tower, etc. and get to know the old town of Zug. The expert city tours take place from April to October at 10 a.m. (please inquire about the first and last tours in April and October). The meeting is at 9:50 a.m. in front of the Zytturm in Zug’s old town. The tour lasts about 90 minutes and costs CHF 5.00 per person; young people under 18 are free. Stalactite caves Baar

In the middle of the wild and romantic Lorzentobel are the caves, which are richly decorated with stalactite formations. Small lakes, stalagmites and stalactites in a wide variety of colors give each cave its own character. Formed over thousands of years by calcareous springs, the Höllgrotten Baar were discovered at the end of the 19th century during the mining of tuff stones. The underground magic kingdom is electrically lit and the caves are connected to each other with good paths. The visit takes about 3/4 hours and you can walk through the caves independently. The Höllgrotten can be reached from Baar on good roads by car or bike. The internal temperature of the caves is around 10° Celsius. It is therefore advisable to wear warm clothes. Despite the good paths, it is recommended to wear closed shoes so that the various wet areas can be easily navigated.

Monastary Einsiedeln

Monastery church – The monastery church was built between 1719 and 1735 and, together with the monastery, forms a spatial unit. Inside the church, the frescoes and stucco merge with the architecture and give the church the lush splendor of the late Baroque. The Chapel of Grace with the Black Madonna is located under the octagonal vault. The Great Hall – The Great Hall is the representative room of the monastery and the only monastery room that is generally accessible. There is a temporary exhibition with art treasures from the monastery. Abbey Library – The Abbey Library was founded in 934. It includes around 1,230 manuscripts, 1,040 volumes of incunabula and early prints and 230,000 printed books. The annual increase is 500-800 volumes. There are also around 200 ongoing periodicals (yearbooks and magazines) and series. The library shows in particular the following specialist areas: Einsidlensia, Monastico-Benedictina, theology and liturgy, Biblica, spiritual literature and devotional books. The monastery’s abbey library contains manuscripts and books that date back to the time the monastery was founded in the 10th century. Monastery stables – The monastery’s stables are considered the oldest stud farm in Europe. The baroque stable was built between 1764 and 1767. The Mineral Museum in Diorama Bethlehem was opened in 1998 and houses the private collection of the hermit doctor Dr. Adelrich Eberle with over 1000 minerals. It is the result of 30 years of collecting and consists of one third Swiss minerals, the remaining two thirds come from all parts of the world. The structure of the collection follows the usual division into mineral classes. A focus of the collection is quartz, which is represented by 150 specimens – some with grown and enclosed other minerals. Bourbaki Panorama Luzern

The Bourbaki Panorama is one of the last remaining giant circular paintings in the world and a rare witness to 19th century media history.
